Christianity
HIV+ and LGBTQI+ friendly Christian communities.
Free Community Church
In Singapore, the only openly LGBTIQ+ welcoming and affirming church is the Free Community Church. It “affirms that all individuals, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and, transgender persons, are individuals of sacred worth created in God’s image”.
The church also affirms that “same-sex and transgender relationships, when lived out in accord with the love commandments of Jesus, are consistent with Christian faith and teachings”.
Furthermore, any discrimination on the basis of homophobia and transphobia are considered inconsistent with Christian teachings.
Many of the church’s sermons and bible study groups on LGBTIQ+ inclusivity can be found on their website. One example is a bible study on The Story of God and Us – LGBTQ+ Inclusion which argues for the inclusion of the LGBTIQ+ community and cites relevant verses from the Bible.
Living Water and LUSH
The Free Community Church also has support groups for LGBTIQ+ believers: Living Water and LUSH.
Living Water is a support group for gay men who want to know more about what the Bible says about homosexuality.
Similarly, LUSH is a support group for lesbian women who want to reconcile their sexuality and their Christian faith.
Online resources
Besides the Free Community Church, there are many online resources discussing Christianity and queerness. YouYou has compiled videos, talks, podcasts, movies, documentaries, books, and articles on queer identities in Christianity.
Positive Faith is an open access internet resource, they have created a free, downloadable video series about welcoming people living with HIV within the Christian faith. These resources on Christianity and living with HIV were also created to complement the video series.
